Some Pune property owners yet to receive tax bills

With only two days left to the last date for availing concession in property tax i.e. May 31, some property owners in the city are yet to receive their bills.

The property tax department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made special arrangements for paying tax by that day.

The deputy municipal commissioner and incharge of tax collection department, Vilas Kanade, said that the property owners can pay tax even on holidays — May 28 and May 29 as the centres would be open on those days.

He said that there are complaints of some property owners not getting tax bills. The civic body had made arrangement at ward offices to provide bills if property owners produced the last paid bill. Besides, arrangements have also been made at the main building of the PMC. Citizens can also download bills from the webpage

Kanade said that those who have not yet received bills should contact the department on 25501183 or 25501185.

He said that those property owners who pay tax before May 31 and have dues less than Rs25,000 would get a concession of 10% in general tax element of the property tax. Those with tax dues of more than Rs25,000 would get a concession of 5%.

He said 2,79,620 property owners have paid tax of Rs196.48 crore to the PMC till May 27.

The civic body had handed over 6.88 lakh bills for distribution to a private company. By last Monday, about 79% bills were distributed. There were problems in distributing bills with inadequate address, he added.

He said that the property tax department had issued notice to the private company about delay in distribution of bills. After that there was improvement in the work.

He said that the department has itself distributed 7,000 bills worth more than Rs50,000 each. There was a good response to this initiative.
